Gizmodo has published a new review on the Fuji XF1. The XF1
is a very interesting camera. On the right hands, it can be better than any other compacts available right now. The controversial manual zoom feature is usually the center piece of the conversation. Some like it (a lot), some hates it. Obviously, this reviewer belongs to the latter group. And as mentioned by this review, the XF1
is a very good camera in other aspects, including the image quality (already proven by Fuji X10
which uses the same sensor). Check this review out (and also try out the XF1
′s manual zoom in person!)
On a different note, I recently acquired the Panasonic LX7 – its working out rather well for me, so far. I’m happy with the purchase (enough that I will be selling the Canon S100
shortly).
Their conclusion: This is form over function. You may want a product that looks good and uses an odd mechanical trick to turn on and off. It certainly can take good pictures.
But if you need to shoot a lot of photos quickly, and you want to take the most advantage of a little camera’s capability, then this isn’t the one for you. For roughly the same price, the product for you is either the S110 or the LX7
.

My LX7 shipped out today so hopefully I receive it by early next week. I am also a fan of the S100 though I don’t own one. Don’t you think the LX7 and S100 are in two different classes though, in terms of size?
Yes, one thing that kept me away from LX7 until recently was the size. When I purchased S100 a year ago, I didn’t carry any bags with me back then. But now I carry a little men’s purse (some call it “murse”!) with me all the time, and S100 was always in it as well. I can also fit LX7 in the same “murse” so in theory, it is with me all the time. I’ve been carrying the LX7 with me for about 2 weeks and so far, it seems to be ok. I wished if it was a bit thinner though. I do love the extra controls on the LX7. And that f1.4 lens is more useful than S100′s f2.0 lens.
