Initial post (Dec 20, 2012)
DPReview has put together a user’s poll on the best camera of 2012. They are closing the poll on Dec 31, 2012 so there’s plenty of time for the results to change, but here’s the result so far:

/ D800E
- Olympus OM-D
E-M5
- Canon 5D Mark III
- Nikon D600
- Sony RX100
- Sony RX1
- FujiFilm X-Pro 1
- Sony A99
- Pentax K-30
- Panasonic GH3
Go ahead and pick your choices as well!
UPDATED (Dec 24, 2012)
4 days have gone since DPReview started the initial survey for the best camera of the year for 2012, and here’s the current standing:
- Olympus OM-D
E-M5
- Nikon D800
/ D800E
(behind by a tiny margin)
- Canon 5D Mark III
- Nikon D600
- Sony RX100
- Fuji X-Pro 1
- Sony RX1
- Sony A99
- Pentax K-30
- Panasonic GH3
The changes aren’t huge, but the most notable change is the swap in place between the E-M5 and the D800
series. M43 is the king of 2012! (well, so far). Fuji X-Pro 1
has also gained a place.
UPDATED (Dec 31, 2012)
The final result has been published at DPReview site. So who won this year’s competition?
Here are the results:
- Olympus OM-D
E-M5
- Nikon D800
/ D800E
- Canon EOS 5D Mark III
Ok, so the top 3 order hasn’t changed but the difference between #1 and #2 were very narrow. I can see that many are complaining that the E-M5 should not have won this competition, but I beg to differ. IMO, E-M5
was the game changer for M43 system – many DSLR users have migrated into M43 system because of E-M5
, including 3 of my friends, one of whom owned a Nikon full-frame system. Just about everyone I showed the E-M5
was impressed with its capability as well as the compactness and the availability of lens system. Since then, other good bodies have arrived, but none of them has impacted the market the way E-M5
did (once again, IMO of course). Gratz, Olympus OM-D
E-M5
!

Congrats to Olympus! I too, have migrated from my DSLR set up and have refrained from purchasing a D7000 in favour of the impressive m4/3 body. Very pleased in my purchase too. Currently have the kit lens, along with the free 45mm Oly 1.8 prime. Can’t wait to bolster the system with the 12 and 75mm lenses for my trip to Taiwan and other countries in the summer. It’s been a blessing to get my hands on such an amazing little system and I can’t wait to see what pictures I capture in the years to come with it.
Gratz for your migration.
I’m sure you are aware of it already but Panny 25mm is very nice too, if you are into primes.
