Here’s yet another super-zoom model from Fuji. This one is called SL1000 and it features a 24-1200mm (!) f2.9-6.5 lens. The SL1
000 is also RAW capable and features the usual goodies including the EVF, image statilization, and a full HD video. Not sure how useful a 1200mm will be at f/6.5 without tripods but the reach is certainly impressive. The SL1
000 uses a 1/2.3-inch BSI-CMOS sensor however which is rather small. The SL1
000 offers ISO up to 12800 which you will have a good laugh if you choose to use it. Fuji is claiming pretty fast auto-focus speed – I hope this turns out to be true. The SL1
000 offers a 1cm macro mode which is not a surprise given its small sensor.
The real question here is, how well does the tiny 1/2.3-inch sensor handles higher ISO levels. Most buyers in this class probably won’t carry a tripod around, so if higher ISO doesn’t produce nice images, all this mega reach isn’t very useful.
